Saturday morning, September 2nd, found our whole
family enjoying brunch on the outdoor terrace at Sanborne’s. This American
style restaurant served both American and Mexican foods and it had a
substantial array of English newspapers and magazines as well as difficult to
buy and expensive American daily niceties, It was located next door to the
Hyatt Hotel, at that time one of the most exclusive hotels in Guadalajara.
After breakfast we walked over to the hotel and watched
some girls figure-skating on a small enclosed sheet of artificial ice located
in the massive lobby. This was followed by a stroll to Plaza del Sol a few
doors down to finish shopping for the rest of the boy’s school supplies. It
surely is strange to be shopping in a store and having to depend on
similarities to what we were familiar with in Winnipeg.
In the afternoon we went to the school. David and I ran
some laps in the 30C heat and then swam in the school’s Olympic-sized swimming
pool. After supper we went for a long walk and then stopped in to visit Lori
and Lucy for a while. Then home to bed! Only one more morning of sleeping in!
On Sunday we attended our adopted church. We met some new
returning members, some of whom had children. After a simple lunch, we ventured
to the school again and sunbathed and swam. It was beautiful, sunny and hot,
with the only shade t provided by some tall palm trees located on the other
side of the 8-foot high wall separating us from the street. I ran some laps and
swam some more. It was so quiet – calm and peaceful- unlike what tomorrow would
bring.
We spent the evening labeling supplies and getting ready
for D-Day tomorrow. It would be an early start tomorrow for what was in store
for us. We hoped we would be up to the task!
